The Middle East has edged closer to major conflict following a sharp escalation between Israel and Iran this week. Israel launched targeted airstrikes inside Iran, hitting military and nuclear facilities, including suspected underground enrichment sites. Amid the violence, former President Donald Trump issued demands that took the crisis to a new level. Speaking from Air Force One as he left the G7 summit in Canada, he called for Iran’s “unconditional surrender”—specifically demanding the complete dismantlement of its uranium enrichment program, rejecting any moderate settlement.
Trump went even further: he claimed U.S. intelligence has identified the location of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and described him as “an easy target.” He then added: “We are not going to take him out… at least not for now. But our patience is wearing thin.”
