Trump allies hold secret London talks with Putin’s circle — while Zelensky fights for survival
Backchannel to Surrender?
Hey Small Biters,
What happens when war diplomacy isn’t handled by diplomats? Sometimes diplomacy is meant to build bridges. Other times, it’s just meant to sell you the map.
The news broke of closed-door meetings in London between a small circle of Trump-aligned figures, Putin’s confidants, and private intermediaries, all aimed at exploring a cease-fire to end the war in Ukraine. But here’s the catch: Ukraine wasn’t there. And neither were its interests.
At the center of the talks? Steve Witkoff, a Trump-affiliated real estate mogul, and unnamed representatives reportedly close to the Kremlin. Senator Marco Rubio’s name has also surfaced in connection with the efforts, though his office denies any official role. The goal? A cease-fire that could formalize Russian control over occupied Ukrainian territory.
For Ukraine, this is more than a diplomatic slight — it’s an existential threat.
