Hey Small Biters,
The scene at Charleston International Airport last week was not the kind of spotlight South Carolina congresswoman Nancy Mace wanted as she launches her campaign for governor. According to a police report, the Republican lawmaker erupted into a tirade at TSA officers and airport police, berating staff and invoking her political title in a string of profanities.
Witnesses said Mace shouted that she was a “f---ing U.S. representative” and demanded to know why she wasn’t receiving special treatment. In one particularly pointed remark, she invoked the name of Senator Tim Scott, suggesting that the state’s other Republican star “wouldn’t be treated like this.” For the employees involved, many of whom are working without pay due to the ongoing government shutdown, the exchange left shock and disbelief.
A TSA supervisor described Mace’s behavior as “unacceptable” and said multiple agents were preparing reports for their superiors. An American Airlines gate agent also approached police, alarmed by what he called a “public outburst.” Officers from the Charleston County Aviation Authority documented the confrontation, noting that Mace appeared “visibly agitated” and “verbally abusive.”
