Hey Small Biters,
ADHD Linked to Significant Reduction in Life Expectancy: New Study Reveals
Significant Reduction in Lifespan: A study analyzing over 30,000 British adults found that ADHD is associated with a reduced life expectancy—nearly seven years shorter for men and about nine years shorter for women. This reduction is comparable to the life expectancy of smokers and is approximately five years shorter than that of heavy drinkers.
Contributing Factors: While ADHD itself is not fatal, its symptoms—such as impulsivity, inattention, and emotional dysregulation—can lead to risky behaviors. Individuals with ADHD are more prone to substance abuse, unsafe driving, and other hazardous activities. They also have higher rates of comorbid conditions like depression, anxiety, and obesity, which can further impact health and longevity.
